Real-Time Schedulability Audit

€2,900

An independent review of your embedded system’s timing. We build a task model, check schedulability with response-time analysis, examine blocking, interrupts and overheads, and deliver a clear report with prioritized recommendations, so you know whether your deadlines are really guaranteed and where your margins are.

Ordering reserves your slot. After checkout we schedule a kick-off call and confirm the final scope in a written statement of work. Prefer to talk first? Contact us.

Description

Many embedded systems ship with timing that has been tested but never analyzed. Testing shows what happened on the bench; it rarely exercises the worst-case combination of releases, interrupts and resource contention. The Real-Time Schedulability Audit gives you an independent, structured assessment of whether your tasks can meet their deadlines, based on established real-time scheduling theory rather than rules of thumb.

What’s included

  • Review of your architecture, task set, priorities, periods, deadlines and interrupt configuration.
  • Construction of a documented task model, including execution-time estimates from your measurements or existing analysis.
  • Schedulability analysis using utilization bounds and exact response-time analysis for fixed-priority systems, or demand-based tests for EDF and reservation-based systems.
  • Assessment of blocking from shared resources and the locking protocols in use, with reference to priority inversion and priority ceiling issues.
  • Accounting for interrupt service routines, release jitter, context-switch and kernel overheads.
  • Sensitivity analysis showing how much execution times can grow before deadlines are at risk.

Deliverables

  • A written audit report with the task model, assumptions, analysis results and identified risks.
  • A prioritized list of recommendations, such as priority reassignment, period changes, locking changes or ISR restructuring.
  • The analysis inputs in a reusable spreadsheet or text format.
  • A review call to walk through the findings and answer your team’s questions.

Typical timeline

Most audits take two to three weeks from scope confirmation, depending on the size of the system and how quickly timing data and documentation can be provided.

Who it’s for

Teams building firmware on an RTOS or bare metal who want confidence before a release, a certification milestone or a hardware change; teams investigating intermittent deadline misses; and organizations integrating software from several suppliers onto one processor. The audit works for single-core systems and for statically partitioned multicore systems. Our free schedulability calculator is a good way to explore simple task sets first.

How it works

  1. Order: place your order on this page. You will receive an order confirmation by e-mail.
  2. Kick-off call: we contact you within a few business days to schedule a video call to discuss your system, goals and constraints.
  3. Scope confirmation: we confirm the scope, deliverables, schedule and any confidentiality arrangements in a written statement of work before substantive work begins.
  4. Delivery: we carry out the work as agreed and walk you through the results.

The price shown covers the standard scope described above. The final scope is always confirmed in the statement of work; if your system needs significantly more effort, we will tell you before any additional cost is incurred. See our refund policy and terms and conditions for details.
